The Norwegian dialects can be difficult to understand for foreigners learning the language. Here are a few examples on words that despite of being very common, differ a lot from each others equivalents in other dialects. Note that most words are more similar to each other than the examples used, so don’t let it frustrate you too much!

English word - I (as in I am)
Bokmål - Jeg
Nynorsk - Eg
Dialect variations - æ, i, e, jæ

Bokmål - Hvorfor
Nynorsk - Kvifor
Dialect variations - korfor, offår, offer, koffår, kafor, åfør, hvoffor

Bokmål - Hvor
Nynorsk - Kor
Dialect variations - hvorhen, hen, korhen, korhæn, korhenne, korhænne, kehænn
